The Ranthambore National Park is fourteen kilometers away from Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. The 400 square kilometres of Ranthambore National Park was a conservation effort on the part of Indian Government. The Ranthambore National Park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1955 and a National Park in 1980 under the Project Tiger Scheme. The national park was initially a part of the dense forest reserves of the Maharaja of Jaipur. Ranthambore forest is dry and deciduous with Dhok trees, which is the main vegetation for the animals. Other trees that grow in this dense forest include kulu (Sterculia urens), ronj (Acacia leucophloea), ber (Zizyphus maudrentiana), khimi (Manilkara hexandra), tendu (Diospyrous melanoxylon), polas (Butea monosperma), peepal, mango and banyan.

Ranthambore National Park is known for its highest tiger population (32).
