Sariska National Park - Sariska
Alwar is home to one of the finest wild life sanctuaries in Rajasthan - Sariska National Park.
Aptly called the Tiger Gate of Rajasthan, Alwar is set on a cluster of the Aravalli hills. A place of antiquity it finds mentions in the Mahabharata. In the medieval period it was a powerful Rajput kingdom known as Mewat. Its proximity to the imperial Delhi was the main reason why this state has to bear the onslaughts of the invading armies at frequent intervals. But at the same time these attacks were repulsed with great bravery and sacrifice. They in fact formed a group in 12th and 13th centuries and raided even Delhi. They were finally suppressed by Sultan Bulban (1267 A.D - 1287 A.D) of the Delhi Sultanate. The place attracts visitors for the sheer beauty of its lakes and its picturesque surroundings.
The opulence and beauty of several forts and palaces, the tranquil waters of the lakes, stately hunting lodges, archeological sites, thick wooden forests, habitat of different species of birds and animals all make Alwar an interesting experience to explore.
Alwar is well connected to prominent locations in and around Rajasthan and the different place in India. Regular bus services link Alwar with key destinations in Rajasthan and Delhi.
There is not a shadow of doubt that Alwar is visited by the tourists in large number as it is the jumping-off point of the Sariska Tiger Reserve.
